The Pelling Skywalk is the single most-visited attraction in town — and it happens to sit a few minutes from our front door. Here's what to know before you go.
What Is the Pelling Skywalk?
Built at Sangacholing in Upper Pelling, the Skywalk is a glass-floored walkway — among the first of its kind in India — that leads up to a 137-foot statue of Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara), the Buddhist deity of compassion. The statue itself is a striking piece of modern religious architecture, visible from much of Upper Pelling, and the walkway offers an open view down into the valley below through the glass underfoot.
What to Expect
- The glass walkway — a short, dramatic stretch; take it slowly on your first crossing if you're not used to heights.
- The statue and grounds — the Chenrezig statue is the centrepiece, surrounded by prayer wheels and space to sit and take in the views.
