Most West Sikkim itineraries stop at Pelling and Yuksom. This one goes further — starting from the quiet border village of Uttarey, over the Rani Dunga viewpoint, down through two waterfalls and a sacred forest lake on the way to Yuksom, and finishing with a rhododendron-forest hike toward the Goechala trailhead before dropping into Ravangla. It's built for small-to-mid-size groups who want West Sikkim's classic stops — Pelling, Khecheopalri, Yuksom — without doing the route everyone else does.

Day-by-day itinerary

1

NJP to Uttarey village

Pickup from NJP (New Jalpaiguri) railway station — the nearest railhead to Sikkim, a short drive from Bagdogra airport for those flying in. From here it's a scenic 5–6 hour drive up through the Rangit valley to Uttarey, a quiet, largely untouristed border village at the foot of the Singalila range in far West Sikkim. Overnight stay and rest in Uttarey.

2

Rani Dunga Trek, then to Pelling

A morning trek up to Rani Dunga, a ridge viewpoint above Uttarey with sweeping Kanchenjunga and Singalila-range views, well off the standard Pelling tourist circuit. After the trek, drive down to Pelling — West Sikkim's best-known base, home to Pemayangtse Monastery and the Skywalk. Overnight in Pelling.

3

Pelling to Yuksom, via Rimbi Falls, Kanchenjunga Falls & Khecheopalri Lake

Leaving Pelling, stop at Rimbi Falls and Kanchenjunga Falls, two roadside waterfalls on the way toward Yuksom. Continue to the Khecheopalri Lake trek — a short forest walk to the sacred "wish-fulfilling lake," revered by both Buddhists and Hindus. From there, drive on to Yuksom, the historic first capital of Sikkim and the traditional gateway to Khangchendzonga National Park, for sightseeing and an overnight stay.

4

Yuksom stay & rhododendron forest hike, then to Ravangla

A short morning hike from Yuksom through rhododendron forest along the start of the route toward the Goechala trailhead — enough to walk the forest without committing to the multi-day trek itself. Afterward, drive to Ravangla in South West Sikkim, known for the Buddha Park (Tathagata Tsal) and clear Kanchenjunga range views. Overnight in Ravangla.

5

Ravangla local & drop to NJP

A morning of local Ravangla sightseeing, then the drive back down to NJP for onward travel — closing the loop on a route that started there five days earlier.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Kanchenjunga Foothills Trail?

A 5-day, 4-night offbeat West Sikkim tour package covering Uttarey village, the Rani Dunga trek, Pelling, Rimbi Falls, Kanchenjunga Falls, the Khecheopalri Lake trek, Yuksom, a short rhododendron-forest hike toward the Goechala trailhead, and Ravangla — starting and ending at NJP.

What is the minimum and maximum group size?

Minimum 4 people, maximum 14. Per-person price drops as the group grows — see the pricing table above.

Can I skip the NJP pickup and drop?

Yes — arrange your own transport to Uttarey and end the trip with a drop at Ravangla instead of a return transfer to NJP, and get ₹3,000 off per person.

Is lunch included?

The package is MAP basis (breakfast & dinner included). Lunch can be added for ₹100 per person per day.

Is this trip suitable for beginners?

Yes. The Rani Dunga trek and the rhododendron-forest hike are short, moderate walks rather than technical treks, and the route doesn't go deep into Khangchendzonga National Park, so it doesn't require a trekking permit the way the full Dzongri–Goecha La route does.

What's the best time for this West Sikkim tour?

March–May for the rhododendron bloom, or October–early December for the clearest Kanchenjunga views. See our season-by-season guide for more detail.

Staying in Pelling before or after?

Wooden Nest Homestay in Upper Pelling is a natural base to extend your West Sikkim trip — hot meals, hot water, and Himalayan views.
