We collect only what we need to take and run your booking. This notice explains what we collect, why, who processes it for us, and your rights under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

Who we are

Wooden Nest Homestay ("we", "us") — Upper Pelling, beside Skywalk Road, Pelling, Sikkim 737113. We decide how your personal data is used. Contact: contact@woodenneststay.com · +91 90643 54760.

What we collect

  • When you book: your name, phone number, email address (optional), stay dates, number and ages of guests, whether you're bringing a pet, and any special requests you write.
  • At check-in: government photo ID for every adult guest, as required by law. Foreign nationals' passport and visa details are reported to the authorities (Form C).
  • Newsletter: your email address, only if you sign up.
  • Feedback: if you use our feedback page (the QR card in your room), your rating, what you liked or didn't, your comments, and — only if you choose to add them — your name, booking ID and contact details. It's emailed to the hosts and kept so we can improve.
  • Payments: you pay us by UPI through your own payment app. We see the payment in our account; we don't collect or store your card or bank details.

Why we use it

  • To process, confirm, change and manage your booking, and contact you about it.
  • To send booking emails — request received, confirmed, dates changed, cancelled — and a review request after your stay.
  • To meet legal requirements, such as guest registers, ID verification and tax records.
  • If you subscribed: to send occasional offers and news. Every such email has an unsubscribe link.

By submitting a booking or signing up for our newsletter, you consent to us using your data for these purposes. You can withdraw consent at any time (see below). Withdrawing consent for a booking may mean we can't complete it.

Who processes your data for us

We don't sell your data. We use these service providers to run the website and bookings; their servers may be located outside India:

  • Supabase — stores booking records securely.
  • Resend — sends our booking emails.
  • Netlify — hosts this website.
  • Meta (WhatsApp, Instagram) — if you message us on WhatsApp; our homepage also shows photos loaded from our Instagram account.

We share data with government authorities only when the law requires it.

How long we keep it

  • Booking records are kept for as long as Indian tax and accounting law requires (typically up to 8 years), then deleted.
  • Newsletter emails are kept until you unsubscribe. If you unsubscribe, we keep only your email address on a "do not email" list so we never contact you again.

Your rights

Under the DPDP Act you can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal data we hold about you and how we use it;
  • correct or update it;
  • erase it, where we're not legally required to keep it;
  • withdraw your consent;
  • nominate someone to exercise these rights for you.

Email contact@woodenneststay.com with your request. We'll reply within 30 days.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, email contact@woodenneststay.com first and we'll try to fix it. If you're still not satisfied, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

Cookies & browser storage

We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. The website may keep small, essential settings in your browser to work properly.
